We are looking for a staff writer to help write articles for the Legion blog and assist researching and outlining articles for other members of the content team. This writer should be very knowledgeable about evidence-based fitness, enjoy reading and learning about research on diet, training, and supplementation, and also be adept at translating existing knowledge into original content aimed at a general audience. The most important requirement of this position is the ability to effectively communicate ideas to a mass audience, using simple, clear language, while also adhering to SEO best practices and Legion’s unique publishing guidelines.
Who You Are:
Love of writing
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
Strong portfolio of online nonfiction fitness articles aimed at the general public (not scientific journal articles), preferably about a range of topics
Understanding of basic on-page SEO best practices and familiarity with (or willingness to learn how to use) SEO research tools like Ahrefs, Ubersuggest, or Semrush
Excellent critical thinking and written communication skills
Stellar productivity and time management skills
Strong ability to focus and write multiple articles per week, including multiple rounds of revision
Ability to simplify complex ideas into simple advice, without losing the nuance or “dumbing down” the writing
Familiarity with Google Docs and Sheets
Comfort working across different time zones, domestic and international
What You'll Do:
Research, outline, and draft articles about topics determined by the Editor-in-Chief
Incorporate feedback from Editor-in-Chief and Director of Content through multiple drafts until articles are ready for publication
Conduct keyword research on various topics related to diet, training, supplementation, and health
Learn, internalize, and follow SEO best practices and Legion’s own processes for incorporating keywords into blog articles
Assist with researching and outlining articles and podcast episodes for other members of the content team as needed
Assist with updating older Legion articles to reflect the latest scientific research and SEO trends
Follow internal guidelines for updating the publication calendar to ensure a smooth workflow
Continue to learn about evidence-based fitness by reading books, research digests, and other sources of information relevant to the content you produce
