The reason we didn’t include probiotics is that berberine has antibacterial properties. When both of these ingredients are combined in the same capsule, the berberine could kill much of the bacteria, negating its beneficial effects. While no studies have proven this is the case, it’s a risk we didn’t want to take.

You can take both daily, but it’s best to leave at least three hours between taking the supplements. The reason for this is that Balance contains berberine, which can kill some of the bacteria from Biome when mixed together in the stomach.

The easiest way to avoid this problem is to take them with different meals, so that one is finished digesting before the other enters your stomach.

For example, you could take one serving (two capsules) of Biome with breakfast and one serving (five capsules) of Balance split between lunch and dinner.

Although we generally recommend splitting one serving (5 capsules) of Balance between three meals (1 capsule with breakfast, 2 with lunch, and 2 with dinner, for instance), it’s fine to split it between two meals instead (2 with lunch and 3 with dinner).

If you have more than three meals per day, take Balance with your largest meals, or the ones that tend to contain more protein, carbohydrate, or fat, or that you’ve found tend to cause the most indigestion, bloating, and gas.

The answer to this question depends on the cause and extent of your digestive issues.

For example, if you’re experiencing bloating and gas because your body is struggling to digest fats and proteins, then you could notice benefits immediately after taking balance.

If you’re experiencing energy swings, diarrhea, and hunger after meals, though, then you may notice benefits within several days of beginning to take Balance.

If you’re experiencing indigestion due to eating a lot of fiber, though, you may benefit more from modifying your diet.

L-glutamine is an amino acid that can help improve gut health by providing the intestines with the raw materials they need to quickly repair damage caused during digestion.

It’s not necessary to include in a gut supplement, though, because you can get all of the glutamine you need from high-protein foods, especially animal foods like beef, eggs, and dairy.

“Leaky gut” isn’t an official disease, condition, or diagnosis. Instead, it’s an informal catch-all term people often use to describe a situation where they experience indigestion, stomach pain, and depending on who you ask, brain fog, mood swings, diarrhea, acne, and many other health issues.

A more accurate term would be intestinal permeability, which is a situation where the small gaps between the cells that line your intestine expand wider than they should, allowing bacteria to escape the digestive system and enter the bloodstream. This bacteria can then cause inflammation, which is linked to a number of ailments.

That said, scientists are still debating how common this problem really is and the best ways to address it.

Researchers think[1] one potential cause of increased intestinal permeability may be inflammation. If that’s the case, the berberine in Balance could help reduce the symptoms of “leaky gut” by reducing inflammation, but it’s impossible to say for sure.
