Legion EAA Ingredients (5 grams per serving)

Essential Amino Acids (5 grams per serving)

Essential amino acids (EAAs) are a group of nine amino acids that your body can’t produce on its own. Instead, you must get them from foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy, or from supplements.

EAAs support muscle growth in two ways: they directly trigger muscle protein synthesis, the process of building and repairing muscle tissue, and they provide the raw materials needed to support that process.

You must consume sufficient amounts of all nine EAAs for this to occur, though. If any one is missing or too low, it can hinder muscle building. This is why BCAA supplements don’t work well for muscle growth—they contain only three EAAs, which isn’t enough to fully support the muscle-building process.[6][7][8]

Now, why supplement with EAAs rather than simply eat enough protein, which is composed of all 20 amino acids that our body needs?

The truth is simply convenience.

“Free-form” essential amino acids—which are just pure, isolated EAAs as opposed to those bound up in food—are no better (or worse) for supporting our health and body composition than the EAAs found in whole foods or protein supplements.[9]

Rather, an EAA supplement is a quick and easy way to boost your EAA intake without having to drink a protein shake or eat a snack or meal. This makes an EAA supplement perfect for when you’re rushing out the door (or the gym), traveling, or heading into a workout and don’t want food sloshing around in your belly.

Essentially, you can think of an EAA supplement as a viable, lower-calorie alternative to a protein powder, bar, or snack and use them interchangeably to support muscle growth.

That said, an EAA supplement shouldn’t be used as an outright replacement for whole-food sources of protein for two reasons:

  1. The body needs eleven non-essential amino acids in addition to the nine EAAs to repair and grow new tissues (including muscle).

While the body can obtain non-essential amino acids from internal sources like ongoing protein breakdown and recycling, muscle building will be constrained if overall amino acid availability is too low.[10] And eating sufficient protein is the most reliable way to ensure general amino acid availability remains high.

  2. Whole foods rich in EAAs also contain a plethora of nutrients not found in EAA supplements and are more satiating and satisfying.

So, put simply, EAAs are supplemental by nature, not fundamental like food.

With that said, research shows that supplementation with EAAs . . .

The clinically effective dose of EAAs ranges from just 3 grams, which can stimulate muscle protein synthesis, to 15-to-18 grams, which maximizes it.[25][26]

Legion EAA

No Artificial Food Dyes, Fillers, or Other Unnecessary Junk

Artificial food dyes and fillers may not be as dangerous as some people claim, but studies show they can cause negative effects in some people, including gastrointestinal toxicity and behavioral disorders.[27][28][29][30][31]

That’s why we use natural coloring derived from fruits and other foods as well as naturally derived ingredients for enhancing shelf life and facilitating the manufacturing process.
