John’s Journey

John’s biggest challenge wasn’t a lack of effort in the gym. As his coach pointed out, John knew his way around weights. What he really needed was a clear plan on how to create a proper calorie deficit while traveling for work, and how to train without getting hurt.

His coach built a custom program that safely adapted to John’s bicep tendon injury, past lower back issues, and a hurt shoulder. Instead of forcing lifts that caused pain, his coach swapped them out for exercises like the Smith machine floor press and incline dumbbell rows. This simple change allowed John to keep pushing his strength numbers up safely.

But the biggest breakthrough was mental, and the real turning point was freeing John from the idea that he had to do certain lifts or be 100% perfect all the time. This shift changed everything. 

It meant John could travel, go out to eat, and enjoy himself without feeling guilty if his diet wasn’t flawless. He learned that doing well most of the time is better than being perfect some of the time.

By the end of his first 3 months, John had made good progress, but he also had a big realization. “I have way more work to do than I thought, which I don’t think is uncommon,” he shared.
