What has happened so far on the program?

So far after 3 months I have lost 7 lbs, and all of my lifts have increased an average of 28% over my starting weights, and they are still climbing. I had no intention of losing any weight, but after 10 years of incorrect lifting I still had a lot of ‘newbie gains’ to make.

Once I plateau at my current weight I plan on bulking to gain strength. At the end of the Year One Challenge I would like to be 175 lbs. with 10% body fat or less.

What, if anything, almost kept you from buying the book or starting the program?

With the number of programs I have tried and failed on there was nothing that kept me from trying Bigger Leaner Stronger. The difference was, this one actually worked for me.

I have been duped by all the magazine workouts touting claims of how to workout like a bodybuilder…turns out without steroids all those workouts get you to do is look like my ‘before’ picture after a while.

What do you like most about the program?

I love the simplicity of it all. The workbook makes it all so easy, and tracking calories and macros takes little effort with smart phone apps now. I am in the gym less time, looking and feeling better than I did before, and I have an organized plan that allows me to set goals and track my progress.

Compared to the war of attrition I was participating in with 10 years of lifting previously, the results seem to be instant. I am nothing short of impressed with the results.

How does this program compare with others you’ve tried?

The program has me in the gym for less time with more results. I used to hit the fad diets like anyone else, and I remember trying to go no-carb about 3 years ago and being so weak by the end of that experiment that I couldn’t climb stairs without getting winded. Now it feels like I can manipulate my weight, I am in control, I never feel hungry or weak like I used to on fad diets, and I get to enjoy the foods I like.

The best diet plan is the one you will stick to, and I can follow this one for life easily.

How has what you’ve achieved with your body changed other areas of your life?

I am more productive, especially on my days off of work. I attribute that to sleeping better and having consistency in my diet. I am a firefighter, and I have always had problems sleeping at work even without calls, but the program has slowly but surely corrected that problem. I am able to stay awake during the day and I don’t get the same mental fogginess and headaches I used to.

The lack of those stressors have improved my overall mood and attitude. My coworkers have noticed, and so has my soon-to-be wife. It really hits home when you realize how nasty you can be to other people when you are hungry, sleep deprived, and feel down on your appearance.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I have fallen victim to so many broscience fads it is not even funny. I was on the verge of giving up after 10 years of lifting with mediocre results and using the excuse of poor genetics to explain away my frustrations. I was just was looking for an honest person who could give me solid advice on how to look good without steroids.

I never once considered steroids as a possibility for me, because I didn’t want to expose myself to health, financial, and legal risks. Fortunately for me I found muscleforlife.com and Mike Mathews’ books. I have now been given the tools to build myself into a better individual, and all that is left is for me to put the work in.
