What has happened so far on the program?

Before I 220 lbs at approximately 28% body fat. 6 months later I am 177 lbs approximately 12% body fat.

With the help of the supplements from Legion Athletics I started immediately losing around 2 lbs a week, and my strength was going up:

Bench up 30 pounds – 240 1 rep to 270 1 rep
Squat up 45 pounds – 260 1 rep to 305 1 rep
Deadlift up 65 pounds – 295 1 rep to 360 1 rep
Military press up 45 pounds – 135 1 rep to 180 1 rep

What, if anything, almost kept you from buying the book or starting the program?

I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year and I finished Chemo in September ’14.  It took me a while for all the effects of treatment to leave my body and I knew I wanted to get into the best shape of my life.

It was a perfect time to try something new. I was doing some research and found Mike’s YouTube videos.  I started the program around the first part of March and never looked back.

I’ve tried tons of different workouts that promise so much change or muscle growth that I never experienced.  After reading Bigger Leaner Stronger it seemed so simple, once I started the program I found that the structure was simple and the change was almost immediate.

What do you like most about the program?

The simplicity of the lifting program was easiest, just constantly trying to beat your last week and using progressive overload makes sense when gaining strength.

All in all my cut was around 24 weeks.  So it lasted longer than I expected but the one thing Mike always preaches is that to get the body that you want won’t be a quick fix.

How does this program compare with others you’ve tried?

This workout program compared to the others I’ve tried is night and day. Using the classic compound lifts makes things easy.  Not having to go from machine to machine using supersets and drop sets is a relief.

People are amazed I’ve made the physical and strength changes I’ve made only using a handful of lifts.

The diet is simple, I’ve always started diets and never finished.  I never had the will power to always eat “clean”.  Mixing in some flexible dieting and counting my macros made the diet easy.

I always get asked how I’m eating a particular food and still lose weight.  It’s all about managing your meals and planning ahead.  I used Intermittent Fasting to help with the diet.

How has what you’ve achieved with your body changed other areas of your life?

I’m definitely more confident, I have always been self-conscious about my appearance and now it’s just something I don’t worry about anymore.

My energy is up and I never valued sleep like I do now. 8 hours of sleep is a game changer when trying to lose weight.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Changing your body takes time. I am just now to the point to where I’m adding calories and gaining weight (the right way) and I know I’m far from where I want to be, but as you progress you’ll see the changes and its worth it.

Not only will you look better but you will be stronger than you ever have been before.

Also using proper form on your lifts is wear you will see the biggest changes. Half reps and bad form can derail your progress.

Anyone who has tried different programs and failed, I think they would see that BLS is easy to follow and you strive to better yourself on the workouts.  Trying to beat your last lift is sometimes what you need to push yourself.
