What has happened so far on the program?

I have been skinny all my life until I turned 50, then the weight came on. I suffer from a hereditary cholesterol problem, my cholesterol was 8 and rising. The doctor said I had a maximum life expectancy of 5 years.

I had just been through the Family Court for a few years, and I suffered severe depression and was taking medication.

I have had back problems with my L4/5 since age 15  and was on pain killers, having regular injections and was on the waiting list for a back operation.

My diet was atrocious, I drank alcohol and smoked cigarettes daily, and fully addicted to marijuana. My life was spiraling out of control…

Then I decided enough is enough and hit the gym as a last chance to make a change.

When I started training I was 5′ 8″, 179 lbs, and 25+% body fat. 14 months later I weigh 154 lbs and around 7% bodyfat at age 53.

What do you like most about the program?

I don’t count calories but I weigh my food and keep track of my bodyfat percentage, and adjust my food amount accordingly. My strength in all exercises is as good as most half my age.

I am rather lean but extremely healthy. I am 53 and completely off all medication, my cholesterol is the lowest ever, depression is gone, my back is awesome, no alcohol, cigs or dope.

I don’t eat processed food at all, no sugar, and I  only drink water.

I owe a lot of what I have achieved to Antony Romeo from BodyWorks. But our gym routine is based on Mike Mathews book Bigger Leaner Stronger and it is seen as the Holy Grail in our gym. We refer the book to whoever has questions about weight loss or building muscle.

How does this program compare with others you’ve tried?

In the gym I met a man, Tim Poulsen. He was training under the influence of Mike Mathews’ book, Bigger Leaner Stronger. He hammered me constantly that I was training incorrectly.

I ignored his requests that I should buy Mike’s book and just did my own thing. I soon hit a wall and wasn’t making any gains.

I started listening to Tim and reluctantly bought Mikes book. Since then I haven’t looked back.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

We love and respect all of Mike’s knowledge, it is second to none.
